CALL FOR PAPER – INTERNATIONALIZATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN WESTERN BALKAN new partnerships, new joint academic initiatives, new perspectives, new opportunities
The ROAMING project, a collaborative initiative involving seven higher education institutions from the
Balkans (including EU, EU-associated, and third countries within the ERASMUS+ programme), invites
the submission of papers for the upcoming International Scientific Symposium on “Internationalization of
Higher Education: New Partnerships, Joint Academic Initiatives, Perspectives, and Opportunities.”
The symposium will focus on three topic areas:
1. European dimension in Western Balkan higher education institutions
2. Mobility in higher education
Challenges and opportunities for staff and student mobility;
International Credit Mobility;
International Relations Offices in higher education institutions
Mobility internships and apprenticeships
How can degree apprenticeship be an instrument of delivering on its social mobility
potential?
Can universities of Western Balkan offer degree apprenticeships?
3. Individuals, Institutions, Society and International Credit Mobility
the need for diversity, equity and inclusiveness transformations
The Scientific Symposium is part of an Erasmus International Week, organized within the framework of
the Erasmus+ Project, “Strengthening International Staff & Student Mobility Offices in the Western
Balkans” (Project acronym: ROAMING). The event will be hosted by LOGOS University College in
Tirana, Albania, on Saturday, 9 November 2024.
The call is open to anyone working in a related field, who is encouraged to submit an abstract and attend
the event. Abstracts should reflect research in progress or previously conducted under the aforementioned
topics during training and study visits within the framework of the ROAMING project.
Background and purpose of the symposium
The ROAMING Project community has established a tradition of periodic gatherings to discuss ideas,
policies, methodologies, strategies, and best practices in the internationalization of higher education. The
primary objective of the project is to address the imbalance in international mobility among remote and
less privileged higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Western Balkans by strengthening their
International Relations Offices. The 2024 Symposium will focus on enhancing internationalization in
these HEIs, considering the current state of higher education in the region. The event will be primarily
held in person, with provisions for online presentations in special cases.
The Symposium aims to explore strategies for motivating and engaging HEIs in the Western Balkans,
adapting practices to enhance internationalization. We believe that internationalization enables
universities to act as key mediators between global and national cultures. Integrating global and
intercultural competences into curricula is essential, equipping students to navigate interconnected,
complex, and diverse societies.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Faculty members, researchers, students, HEI’s administrators, teachers and principals of public and
private educational institutions, social welfare activists, interested professionals and public persons.
